So I guess read speeds need to be optimised as much as possible in my raid 6 configuration. I won't edit of the raid but I need to be able to play 4k video. Pegasus2 R6 12TB 6-Bay RAID System with Thunderbolt 2 Technology (6 x 2TB) by Promise Technology Part P2R6HD12US (HE152VC/A) Pegasus2 Series by Promise Technology - The Pegasus2 is the world's first and fastest Thunderbolt 2 hardware RAID Storage Solution. The main purpose of this raid will be file storage. Since Raid 5 performs slightly better then Raid 6, would this give me the same safety net as Raid 6 when 2 disks fail but with better performance? Now I'm wondering if there is a difference between choosing Raid 6 (using all 6 disks) or choosing Raid 5 with a global spare configured (so 5 disks in Raid 5 and 1 for the spare). The Pegasus2 manual points out that Raid 6 is the safest Raid level. I prefer to choose for a raid level that will give me maximum protection. I've replaced the original disks that came with the Pegasus2 raid with 6 new ones, so I need to need to build a new array and logical drive. I now have an ASRock Z77 Extreme6/TB4 with also 2 Thunderbolt connectors and I wanted to get the storage running on my Windows 7 (Home Premium) machine. I know that this external storage was intended to be used with Macs. I'm using the raid as a Direct attached Storage. Got my hands on a Promise Pegasus2 R6 (6x 2TByte) with 2 Thunderbolt connectors. I own a Promise Pegasus2 R6 connected to a Mac Mini 2014 / i7/ 16TB.
